Offshore staff

KONGSBERG, Norway — COSCO Shipping (Qidong) Offshore has awarded Kongsberg Maritime a EUR28 million (US$31 million) contract to supply equipment for a new wind turbine foundation installation vessel.

The F-Class jackup, ordered by Danish installation contractor Cadeler, is due to be delivered in 2025.

It will be able to transport up to six XL monopiles, weighing from 2,300 to 2,600 metric tons (2,535 to 2,866 tons), per round-trip. Its design allows it to be converted if needed to a wind turbine installation vessel.

For all three vessels, Kongsberg Maritime is supplying the thruster package, electrical systems and dynamic positioning functionalities, along with digital tools said to improve sustainability and reliability.

Cadeler is negotiating an XL monopile foundation installation contract in the North Sea, using the new F-class jackup.
