Kellogg’s Wrexham factory has taken on two new apprentices as the business’ programme enters its 30th year.
The apprenticeship scheme, started in 1990, provides hands on experience. Apprentices are able to join various teams within the factory as they embark on a five-year apprenticeship programme.
The newest team members, Ethan Evans (16) and Owen Milson (18), have both grown up in Flintshire.
Ethan from Leeswood joins Kellogg’s after completing his GCSE’s at Castell Allun High School and Owen form Connah’s Quay has recently finished at College Cambria Deeside, where he has completed a course in mechanical engineering.
The Kellogg’s Wrexham apprenticeship scheme runs in partnership with Coleg Cambria College, where apprentices spend their first-year building on their theoretical knowledge before they join the team at the factory.
Throughout the five years with Kellogg’s, the apprentices will gain a number of official qualifications including an engineering degree in manufacturing and NVQ Level three in a discipline of their choice.
Dan Owens, Kellogg’s maintenance manager, said: “I started with Kellogg’s as an apprentice 24 years ago and I’m now maintenance manager for the Wrexham plant.
“Many of us who started as apprentices have moved to leadership roles, so the opportunities are there if you want progress.”
Andy Lewis, Kellogg’s technical operations manager, commented: “I joined the Kellogg’s apprenticeship scheme at the Wrexham factory in 2003, straight after I left school at 16 years old.
“Since completing my apprenticeship, I have had a number of roles and I now lead the technical team.
“Kellogg’s hasn’t just been a job to me, but a journey with many adventures on the way which have helped me develop professionally through working on different projects and in different roles.’’
Owen Milson, Kellogg‘s apprentice, said: “I chose to apply for Kellogg’s apprenticeship because of their strong reputation in our community. They’re known as a company that has their employees needs at the heart of what they do so I’m very proud to be joining the team.”
Ethan Evans, Kellogg’s apprentice, added: “I’m excited to join Kellogg’s as an apprentice and I hope to be able to progress within the business, as other apprentices have over the years.”
