A South African energy group has said Parliament was “misled” after it voted to quash a probe into the country’s much-delayed emergency energy plan.
On Tuesday, Parliament’s oversight committee on mineral resources and energy voted to scrap a planned inquiry into the Risk Mitigation IPP Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP). The programme aims to fast-track the addition of 2 000 MW of “emergency” power to SA’s grid to cut down on load shedding.
The committee’s six ANC members voted to scrap the probe after being told by a legal advisor that a recent court ruling had found no evidence of wrongdoing. The DA’s two MPs objected to halting the probe, while the EFF’s sole member abstained.
