Being the city’s last downtown flower shop, K & M Floral has been working hard to meet Woodland’s need for flowers during holidays and special events.
Owner Michele Justice said her shop — located at 537 Main St. in Woodland — has been “as busy as we can possibly be” being the only florist shop in town, especially with Mother’s Day just around the corner.
“I expect to continue to be busy through Saturday,” she emphasized. “We’ll be open on Sunday for just a short period of time in the morning and then I’m going to send my staff home to be moms and be with their family as well.”
Justice added that her shop will not be doing Sunday deliveries.
The flower industry has continued to have supply chain issues that Justice said have affected her ability to get certain flowers.
“I just spent two hours talking with the wholesaler,” Justice began. “They were trying to fill half of my order but they couldn’t even fill half of it. Trucking and shipping is creating huge issues for the industry as it has been through the pandemic.”
However, Justice said she has more than enough flowers to fulfill everyone’s needs but can only do so by switching to a “designer’s choice” model, meaning that the florists create arrangements with what is available at the shop.

“Although there are flower shortages I have more than enough flowers because I’m changing how I look at the holiday,” Justice highlighted. “Instead of doing what comes over on all the wire services we’re doing designer’s choices and that leaves me open to buy what is there, what’s available, and fill my orders.”
Regarding customers who want specific things, Justice encouraged them to “come into the shop and talk to us. They can no longer order that on our website we are only doing designer’s choice.”
Justice stressed that she has “the best designers I’ve ever worked with so no matter what they order it’s going to be gorgeous and mom’s gonna love it. But if they have their mindset on something specific…they’re going to just have to go with the flow and let us do our magic for mom.”
She asked that the public be kind to her and her helpers who are just doing their best because they are “busier than the shop’s ever even imagined it could be.”
