Police in Jinja are holding two suspected thugs for robbing 283 million shillings in cash from a factory accountant in the Eastern city.
Reports indicate that on Monday at around 1pm, armed robbers followed an Indian national called Bhaven Prajapati who is the finance manager of Victoria Nile Plastics in Njeru and robbed him.
“Mr. Bhaven Prajapati was traveling with two other occupants in the car, they were followed by the thieves from Bank of Baroda in Jinja city up to Njeru and upon reaching one of the washing bays along Kayunga road, he was blocked by a Toyota Wish registration number UBA 032N and robbed of money totaling to 283M,” said ASP James Mubi, Busoga East Region Police PRO.
ASP Mubi said that Prajapati immediately reported to the Central Police Station and detectives started tracking the suspects using the GPS device that was contained in the bag of cash.
The bag was tracked and located at Rainbow guest house in Wakitaka where two suspects were arrested while drinking alcohol with the money in the car.
They have been identified as Isanga Godfrey, a resident of Bukatuube in Mayuge district and Kiiza Patrick from Iganga town.
Upon search, Police recovered a gun belonging to the army registration number UG-UPDF-UH-3113 with 26 rounds of ammunition.
Shockingly, out of the 283 million shillings, the suspects were found with only 77 million only.
The two are still undergoing interrogation at Jinja Central Police to reveal how they accessed the gun and also their accomplices who are still at large.
