James S. Velonis

Peabody – James Spyros Velonis, age 92, of Peabody, died on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Brooksby Village following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Maureen J. (Macdonald) Velonis with whom he shared 61 years of marriage and predeceased him in 2019. They had lived in Peabody, Beverly, and Danvers before moving to Brooksby Village 5 years ago.
Born in Salem in 1929, he was the son of the late Spyros and Anthie (Mortis) Velonis. He was raised and educated in Salem and graduated from Salem High School in 1947. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran serving for 3 years during the Korean Conflict. James was the former owner and operator of the Peabody Supply Company, a plumbing and heating product supplier and was a Past President of the New England Wholesalers Association. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Salem Country Club in Peabody for over 35 years and the Willoughby Country Club in Stuart, Florida.
James is survived by his loving sons, James S. Velonis, Jr. and his wife, Mary of West Newbury, Nicholas Velonis and his wife, Gina of Salem and Christopher Velonis of Beverly; his adoring grandchildren, James E. III, Sam, Matthew, Nicholas, Demitra, Athena and Hunter; his brother, George S. Velonis and his wife Ann of Peabody and his many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jessie Maharis and Artemis Kandianis.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the Funeral Service.
