Investigators with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office have identified the body of a man found dead in 1984 in a Sacramento deep water shipping channel on the eastern edge of the county as Norman Creech of Sacramento.

Creech’s body was found June 7, 1984, on the rocks during low tide,. It was in a moderate stage of decomposition.

Identified as an average-sized male and dubbed a John Doe, his name came to light this month when detectives and forensics staff used new DNA testing.

Creech had been reported as a missing person from Sacramento County in November 1983. He had disappeared from his apartment in the 3000 block of Bell Street under suspicious circumstances, officials said.

Sheriff’s officials seek the public’s help in learning what led to Creech’s death. Though they are working with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, they ask that anyone with information contact Solano Sheriff’s Det. Charles Olmstead at 784-7055 or [email protected].
