Kanpur: A major fire broke out in a closed Ink factory at site-V in the Dada Nagar Industrial area on Sunday evening. Six fire tenders were pressed into service to control the fire. It took over two hours of hard exercise todouse flames.
The factory belongs to one Dinesh Gupta, of Sarvodaya Nagar. “The factory has not been functional since past couple of years. However, many chemical drums are being stored there,” said a police official.
After the fire broke out at around 6 pm, several chemical drums exploded due to which fire spread into a major portion of the factory. This led to panic among locals of the area.
Chief fire officer MP Singh and Fazalganj fire officer Kailash Chandra arrived at the spot along with the fire tenders and fire personnel.
“As the factory was closed, we first broke open the shutters of the factory. Later, six fire tenders from Fazalganj, Kidwai Nagar and Mirpur fire stations were roped into to douse the fire,” said MP Singh, adding, “Right now, the extent of damage caused by the fire is yet to be ascertained.”
