India’s weapon procurement from US jumps to $3.4 bn : The Tribune India

India’s weapon procurement from the United States jumped from $6.2 million to $3.4 billion in the final year of the Donald Trump’s administration, according to the official data.

As per the data released by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the sale of weapons from the US to other countries has dipped to $50.8 billion in 2020 from $55.7 billion in 2019

Major buyers in 2020

  • India: $3.4 billion, up from $6.2 million in 2019
  • Morocco: $4.5 billion, up from $12.4 million
  • Poland: $4.7 bn, up from $673 mn
  • Singapore: $1.3 bn, up from $137 mn
  • Taiwan: $11.8 bn, up from $876 mn
  • UAE: $3.6 bn, up from $1.1 bn

Many report drop in purchase

  • Saudi Arabia: $14.9 bn in 2019 to $1.2 bn in 2020
  • Afghanistan: $1.1 bn, down from $1.6 bn
  • Belgium $41.8 mn, down from $5.5 bn
  • Iraq: $368 mn, down from $1.4 bn
  • South Korea: $2.1 bn, down from $2.7 bn

In 2020, US sale of weapons to Pakistan stood at $146 million
