Namakkal: Tamil Nadu Milk Producers’ Welfare Association (TNMPWA) has demanded the state government to increase the milk procurement prices considering their plight.
M G Rajendran, general secretary of the association, said the last time that the milk procurement price was increased in the state was in August 2019 by the former AIADMK government.
“The state government did not revise the rate for the past 33 months,” he said. According to him, the AIADMK government increased the price by 4 per litre for cow milk and 6 for a litre of buffalo milk.“In these 33 months, the fodder rates, wages of workers and other rates have increased, while the milk procurement rates remain unchanged,” he said.
The milk producers demanded chief minister M K Stalin to increase the price by 10 per litre for cow milk and 16 per litre for buffalo milk. Rajendran also demanded the CM to increase the milk procurement price once a year.
TNMPWA also appealed the government to include milk in the noon-meal scheme.
