WOOD RIVER, Neb. (KSNB) – Husker Harvest Days is just around the corner, and for over the last 40 years the event put on by Farm Progress has helped farmers survey the newest farming technology.
However, longstanding supply chain issues have created a pretty bleak situation for the three-day event. John Deere won’t even be in attendance because they don’t have the inventory for a proper display, according to Husker Harvest Days organizers.
Despite the supply chain issues, farmers should have little extra cash to invest in their farms this year because of the higher commodity prices.
“You would expect the grows to be making investments into their operations, and putting new technologies to work,” said Matt Jungmann, National Events Director for Farm Progress. “The biggest challenge is the inventory challenges, so maybe they want to buy something but there is a long lead time to get their hand on it, so probably a lot of conversations around that going on.”
Claas’s company representative said they didn’t bring all the equipment they normally do, just so they could have those items available for people who need to purchase them. They said the supply chain has created issues outside United States’ borders.
“I mean the supply chain issue has been affecting us all through the pipeline, from our parent company in Germany, to our factory in Omaha we have been seeing strain all the way through,” said Erin Atkins, Marketing Specialist for Claas of America. “Whether it be parts or components coming in a timely manner the logistics situation and the availability of trucks to move the freight to where it needs to be. Outbound equipment and the timing of that so that we can make sure we are hitting delivery so farmers can get into the field when they need to.”
