Lincoln, Neb. (KLKN) — South Lincoln residents visiting the 56th and Highway 2 Super Saver we’re greeted at the door by students looking to make a change for Florida victims.
The Skyview Learning Academy spent the day in the parking lot asking customers to consider donating basic sanitation products to those who have been affected by Hurricane Ian in Florida.
The parking lot had multiple carts set out labeled with items such as paper towels, toilet paper and diapers.
Director Michele Ray said the call to action was simple as they teach students the importance of service.
“These people have lost everything, they don’t have anything in their homes,” Ray said. “You have to think of the kids. So we thought “we are a school so it makes sense for us to focus on the kids and the babies.
The want to serve is important to Ray as her family received help during the Nebraska flooding a few years back.
“Back in 2019, when we had the historic flooding, my husband and I looked at each other one day and we said “We really need to do something to help,” Ray said.
Ray’s family helped out by sending pallets of water to northeastern Nebraska, but while the items are different the goal still remains the same.
“So in natural disasters, food and water would be your primary things, but with us being so far away from Florida, we just thought this would be a good opportunity to work specifically with baby and child items,” she said.
The Stuff the Bus donation drive lasted till 6 p.m. with many Husker fans taking the time to grab a bite extra while on their game-day snack run.
