JACKSON, MI – Ahead of this week’s snowstorm, hundreds of brave souls lined the shores of Clark Lake ready to leap into its fringed waters for charity.

See jumpers take the Polar Plunge in frigid waters of Clark Lake
About 250 brave souls jumped into Clark Lake on Saturday Jan. 29, at the Michigan Law Enforcement Polar Plunge.
Many jumpers wore costumes to the plunge, including a merman and Maui from Disney’s Moana, while others sported swimsuits and sweatpants. The event took place just outside the Eagle’s Nest Bar & Grill, 1200 Eagle Point Road.
It’s coming back! Popular Jaxon Pizza Factory set to return to Jackson
It was home to great conversation, pizza and rice pudding until it closed, but Jackson residents who’ve missed the Jaxon Pizza Factory can rejoice.
A new owner is planning to open the business again.
The Jaxon Pizza Factory, 800 N. Waterloo St., will be brought back to life this summer by Jackson native Brent Harmon, who plans to change the name slightly to Jackson Pizza Factory.
Jackson community mourns unexpected death of child remembered for style, creativity
Alaya Wilson was a budding artist, musician and cosmetologist who played softball and was getting ready to start playing volleyball, her father said, describing a 12-year-old ready for her next weekend adventure with friends.
“She was a very social butterfly,” Jay Wilson said.
Cow on the freeway closes westbound I-94 near Jackson
I-94 west of Parma in Jackson County is shut down due to a loose cow on the freeway, officials say.
The highway was closed at exit 128 at 9:34 a.m. after police received reports of the cow in roadway, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
One killed in Jackson County house fire
One person is dead after a fire sparked inside a Liberty Township home Saturday afternoon.
Fire crews were called at 2:50 p.m., Jan. 29, to the 1200 block of Gates Road for a report of a structure fire, according to the Liberty Township Fire Department.
Crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the home and went to work battling the blaze as more crews were called to the scene, officials said.
Jackson’s newly named plows ready to hit the streets as large snowstorm approaches
Five newly named city of Jackson snowplows will be put to the test in the next couple of days as a snowstorm packing a punch prepares to strike.
“Cooper Scooper,” “Grand Shiver,” “Cold Air Jubilee,” “Cas-Blades” and “Jackson Frost” are the names Jackson residents picked for five of the city’s plows in a recent naming contest.
$50K grant will benefit Hayes Hotel, downtown Jackson developments
The Jackson Anchor Initiative has received a grant to help support downtown Jackson developments, including the Hayes Hotel.
The $50,000 grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation will go toward developments that will bring shoppers, diners and other economic activity to downtown Jackson, officials said.
Jackson woman convicted in 2015 murder to be resentenced – again
Dawn Dixon-Bey is set to be sentenced for the third time for the same crime.
“We again vacate defendant’s sentence and remand for resentencing before a different judge,” the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled Feb. 1.
Dixon-Bey fatally stabbed her boyfriend, Gregory Stack, 49, twice in the heart on Feb. 14, 2015. A jury found her guilty of second-degree murder in 2015, and she was sentenced by Jackson Circuit Judge John McBain to spend 35 to 70 years in prison.
Jackson Popcorn Depot is moving, but not very far
The Jackson Popcorn Depot is moving from its current location, but customers won’t have to look hard to find its new place.
Owners Greg and Becky Vancalbergh have owned the Jackson Popcorn Depot inside the Jackson Crossing mall for roughly six years. Over the years the store has gained in popularity, making the 1,200-square-foot space no longer suitable for their needs, Greg said.

3 men arrested during home invasion in Jackson, police say
A trio of men were arrested early Monday morning in the middle of an attempted home invasion, police said.
At about 1:32 a.m. Jan. 31, officers from the Jackson Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Burr Street for a possible break-in.
