Higher prices, straining supply chain affects Food Bank of Siouxland

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -Higher grocery prices and a strained supply chain are having an impact on people, businesses and organizations, including food banks.

Local leaders say fewer donations are coming into the Food Bank of Siouxland, which provides food supplies to shelters and food-impoverished households. As a result, the decreased availability of groceries makes efforts to deliver food to families in need more difficult.

The food bank, which lends a helping hand to 11 counties in the Siouxland area, is feeling the pinch.

Executive Director of the Food Bank of Siouxland Jacob Wanderscheid says,“In December, we see just over 5,700 households, that amount represented 9,400 children in those households. Again, the period between November and February is our busiest season, because that includes Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the heating season, of when energy bills are high.”

Leaders with the Food Bank of Siouxland say the organization is accepting food donations and needs volunteers, so if you can help, it will be appreciated.
