(WEST PALM BEACH, Florida)– Inflation and disrupted supply chains have increased prices across the board, and pet owners are starting to feel the strain.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the annual inflation rate in the U.S. reached a high of 9.1% for the 12-month period ending in June 2022, which is the largest increase since November 1981.
Covid-19 is causing ongoing interruptions to supply lines, and these combined issues have created a surge in the prices of some types of pet food.
Kimberly Kelsey takes her two dogs to the City Paws Dog Park in West Palm Beach and told our partners at WPTV, “A giant breed of dogs, they eat two cans a day, so that’s like $6 just on wet food,”
Kelsey went on to say, “If you do dry food, that’s $40-$50.”
In an effort to combat pet hunger, Palm Beach County has set up several food banks to help out struggling pet parents.
