Stop cheating us with meagre milk procurement hike: Goa Dairy farmers

PONDA: Goa Dairy farmers on Sunday warned the dairy administration to stop cheating them with a meagre milk procurement hike of 75 paise per litre.

They demanded that the milk procurement rates for farmers be hiked by Rs 3 from April 1 as promised during the meeting held with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in March this year.

Goa Dairy farmers including former chairman Anup Desai, Sanjeev Cuncolienkar and Chairmen of various milk supplying societies addressed media persons.

Sanjeev Cuncolienkar said, “At the recent press briefing the Goa Dairy Administrative Committee led by chairman Durgesh Shirodkar had announced that the dairy was giving Chaturthi gift to farmers by hiking the milk procurement rates by 75 paise per litre from September 1. However, this claim made by the chairman is baseless.”

Cuncolienkar said, “The Government-appointed Goa Dairy administrative committee should stop cheating farmers. Following the hike by Goa Dairy in cattlefeed price by Rs 4 in December last year, the dairy farmers had agitated against it  demanding that the same be rolled back. Later a meeting of farmers was arranged with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in March.  At this meeting, the dairy officials and RCS were present wherein a decision was taken by Goa Dairy officials in presence of Chief Minister to hike the milk procurement rates by Rs 3  to compensate the hike in cattlefeed price and this was to be implemented from April 1. However the Goa Dairy failed to fulfil the promise and instead has now hiked the milk procurement prices of 75 paise per litre which is not acceptable to them.”

Anup Desai said, “For a long time government has been managing the Goa Dairy Affairs through Administrator. Government is interfering in Goa Dairy affairs and decision making and this interference is harmful.”
