Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has been hit by a cyber attack that has hit operations.
On December 9, the German logistics services company said external security specialists are working on restoring operations, but it is currently unable to confirm whether any data has been leaked.
“We can currently not rule out that there have been data leakages or unauthorized use of data,” said Hellmann.
It added: “As a precautionary measure, all connections to the central data centre were immediately disconnected temporarily, which currently still has material impact on our business operations.”
Hellmann offers airfreight, seafreight, road & rail, and contract logistics services with 489 offices in 173 countries. In 2020, the Hellmann Group achieved a turnover of around €2.5bn.
Cyber attacks remain a continual threat in the transport and logistics industry. In February 2020, Japan Post-owned freight forwarder, Toll Group was forced to shut down certain IT systems after suffering a cyber attack.
The NotPetya malware cyber-attack in June 2017 was partly responsible for a downturn in turnover for Damco, the freight forwarding and logistics arm of Danish container shipping giant Maersk. Damco reported a US$8m loss on turnover of US$1.24bn in the first half of 2017.
