Hebburn fire LIVE: 26 firefighters battling large blaze at derelict factory

There is currently a large fire creating an alarming amount of smoke over the Hebburn area of South Tyneside.

Fire crews confirmed they arrived at the scene on Argyle Street at 10.50am on Sunday. Five engines as well as 26 firefighters are still currently battling the blaze.

An area ladder platform is also being used by firefighters to reach the fire and attempt to put out the flames.

The property which is aflame is a derelict former factory. The dark grey smoke can be seen across the city as far as Heaton, Walker and Jarrow. Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have urged local residents to keep windows and doors closed.
