As Bedford County moves from the “red” to the “yellow” phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to reopen Pennsylvania’s economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, one area organization is reaching out to help residents make the transition as safely as possible.
The Hyndman and Bedford Family Health Centers will holding a mask drive on Sunday in Hyndman and Bedford.
William Kurtycz, CEO of the health centers, noted that “We’ve been watching (the virus) take our loved ones, watching it destroy our economy,” and this was the health centers’ way of helping.
The drive, he said, will address health-care inequalities, and is open to anyone, healthy or well, of all income levels.
The purpose, he said is to help make sure people have masks, which are an essential component of the effort to mitigate the virus.
“It not only protects me, it protects you from me,” he said.
The drive-through only mask drive will provide each car with a pack of 10 surgical masks.
The Hyndman mask drive will take place at the Hyndman Family Health Center, 144 5th Ave., from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.
The Bedford Family Health Center will be holding its mask drive at the Bedford Middle School, 440 E. Watson St., from 3 to 5 p.m.
The mask drives will last while supplies last.
A mask drive at the Richland Family Health Center, which is currently under construction in the College Park Plaza in Cambria County, will be held at a later date.
