Hat trick for Altius – Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding International Magazine

Altius has completed a series of project cargo deliveries to three continents during the turbulent Covid-19 pandemic.

The Spain-headquartered project forwarder transported four transformers and various accessories from Turkey to Tema in Ghana. Each unit measured 9.9 m x 3.4 m x 4.65 m and weighed in at 154 tonnes.

Altius was responsible for arranging port handling and supervision, along with sea transportation to Tema port. Despite the current circumstances, the operation was executed smoothly. The cargoes will form part of a substation at Pokuase.

In a separate project, Altius was responsible for delivering a 103-tonne compressor from Marina di Carrara (Italy) to Dammam (Saudi Arabia).

The 14.5 m x 5.05 m x 3.85 m unit will be installed at the Ras Tanura project.

Altius arranged the road transport in Italy, including all permits, from the supplier premises. It also organised port handling and supervision, sea transportation to Dammam port and vessel agency services in Saudi Arabia.

The Covid-19 outbreak meant that the originally chartered vessel could not guarantee agreed loading dates. Given that the cargo was crucial to the project, Altius quickly arranged for a different vessel to perform the move. Despite the turmoil, Altius was able to deliver the item ahead of schedule.

In what has been a busy few months for the company, it has also transported two 94-tonne transformers, along with 700 cu m of accessories, to Honduras.

Altius’ scope of work included receiving the cargo at port, including all coordination and supervision, and the ocean freight to Puerto Cortés. The transformers form part of the Troncontin and Progreso projects.
