Governor orders women- and minority-business procurement study

RICHMOND (WINA) – Governor Northam has announced the hiring of a consultant that will help the state Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity study disparities in procurement opportunities for women- and minority-owned businesses. This is part of a new Executive Order directing state agencies to procure at least 42-percent of discretionary spending from certified small-, women-, and minority-owned businesses.

BBC Research and Consulting will do the study.

A Governor’s release says they were founded in 1970 as part of a division at the University of Denver specializing in local economic research. The Governor says they’ve been successful implementing effective women- and minority-owned business programs “in a legally-defensible manner”.
