AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) – Golden Harvest has teamed with Faith Outreach and Abundant life church to help feed families in the CSRA.
Over 400 families are expected to be fed in the distribution at Willis Foreman Elementary School. FOX54 spoke to volunteers from todays event and they said they came together for the purpose of giving back to their community
Richard Peoples, Pastor at Abundant Life, said “It’s a joy each year to be able to give back to our community.”
Richard Peoples is a pastor at Abundant Life. He tells us why he believes it’s important to give back to “The Greater Augusta Area”, especially during the holiday season.
“Surveys have shown in the greater Augusta area one out of ever five to seven families are going homeless every day” “And as a community that’s why we can come together to eliminate those needs”, says Peoples.
Peoples views it as a mission to serve the CSRA. He says the doors of Abundant Life are open to serve the community.
“Because if we’re not serving our community why are we keeping our doors open”, says Peoples.
Golden Harvest Food Bank has been focused on helping those fight food insecurity. Officials and volunteers want to make sure the 55,000 pounds of food donated gets on the plates to those in need.
Amy Breitmann, CEO of Golden Harvest Food Bank, says “This food really may supplement and for many be the meal they are able to produce on Christmas day.”
