Glastonbury COVID test distribution set for Tuesday morning | Glastonbury

GLASTONBURY – The town plans to distribute COVID-19 testing kits to residents in a drive-through event from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Riverfront Park, using the baseball field entrance.

The event is for Glastonbury residents only, and people are asked to put proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or piece of mail, on their vehicle’s driver’s side dashboard.

The test kits will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Two test kits, each of which contains two tests, will be provided to each household. Residents are asked to send only one vehicle per household to the event.

Officials said in a statement that the event is intended for those who regularly have contact with people outside their households. But the town’s Social Services Department will separately distribute test kits to people with “limited resources” or special needs.

People are asked to approach the Riverfront Park area from Naubuc Avenue, then turn down Welles Street and go past the Riverfront Community Center and the boathouse entrance to the second driveway to the park, which is the baseball field entrance. People are asked to drive slowly for the safety of town staff members who will be directing traffic.

Residents are asked to wear masks and keep the driver’s side windows of their cars up, while town personnel put the tests in the back seat or trunk.

Officials are asking residents to start lining up shortly before 10 a.m. – and not before 8:30 a.m. to avoid blocking traffic. People with other destinations are asked to try to avoid Welles Street between 8:30 a.m. and noon.

Glastonbury has also signed up to receive N95 masks, and expects to make them available in the coming weeks. Additional test distribution events may also be scheduled as tests become available. Updates on such events will be published on the town’s website.
