Gersheimer Expands Factory For Glass Bottles In The United States

Düsseldorf – With investments of up to $94 million (Euro 92 million) in the United States, packaging specialist Gersheimer is looking to strengthen its position there. The company announced today that it will be investing in the production, distribution and logistics capabilities of glass vials, such as those used for corona vaccines.

Gerresheimer intends to use the funds to expand the existing facility in the US state of North Carolina. The US government is contributing up to $66 million in investment.

“The agreement reaffirms our important role as a supplier of system-critical products,” explained CEO Dietmar Siemsen.

According to the company, raw materials from US suppliers are to be used primarily in production: this is to ensure “responsiveness, reliability, quality and integration of domestic supply chains.”

The investment will also strengthen capabilities in the United States “for rapid response to current and future crises in the health sector.” With approximately 10,000 employees and 36 plants worldwide, Gersheimer is one of the leading manufacturers of pharmaceutical packaging. afp/aerzteblatt.de
