Garment factory catches fire in Chattogram

The office of a garment factory was burnt in a fire in Chattogram city’s Bayezid area on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at the third floor of Anwara Dress Makers Limited, a concern of Frank Group, at about 7:40am, said Md Kabir Hossain, senior station officer of Bayezid fire station.

11 fire fighting units of three fire stations went to the spot and put out the fire at about 10:00am, he said.

‘Employees of the garment noticed the blaze at about 7:40am while they came to office. Official documents of the factory were burnt in the fire,’ he said.

The cause of the fire and the amount of damage caused by the fire could be known after investigation, he said.

An official of the factory fell sick inhaling smoke and he was hospitalised.

Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, co-chairman of Anwara Dress Makers Limited, told New Age that official documents of the factory were burnt in the fire.

Some machineries of the factory also got damaged in the fire, he added.

He said that the fire might be originated from a short circuit.
