Freight Futures data to watch: Weekly spot contract settlement changes

It was a strong week across the board for the Trucking Freight Futures markets with the spot National contract (FUT.VNU202006) rising $0.046, or 3.1%, to $1.526 per mile. The South regional contract (FUT.VSU202006) rose a solid $0.06, or 4.5% week-over-week, to $1.390. The East regional contract (FUT.VEU202006) posted a solid $0.059 gain to finish the week higher by 0.4%, to $1.521, and the West regional contract (FUT.VWU202006) rose $0.02, or 1.2%, to $1.667. 

On the individual lanes, the LAX to DAL (FUT.VLD202006) contract in the South surged $0.119, or 6.9%, to $1.842 and was driven by strong freight volumes in the LAX area moving east. The DAL to LAX contract (FUT.VDL202006) rose slightly by 0.2%, to $0.939. In the East, the CHI to ATL contract (FUT.VCA202006) jumped $0.088, or 5.9%, to $1.592; the ATL to PHL contract (FUT.VAP202006) was up an impressive $0.067 (3.5%) to $1.989; and the PHL to CHI contract (FUT.VPC202006) climbed $0.02 (2.1%) to settle the week at $0.981. In the West, both contracts posted modest gains, with the LAX to SEA contract (FUT.VLS202006) rising $0.025 (1%), to $2.533, and the SEA to LAX contract (FUT.VSL202006) gaining $0.015 (1.9%), to $0.801.
