PLEASANTON, CA — A drive-through emergency food distribution site is now open two days a week at the Alameda County Fairgrounds at 4501 Pleasanton Ave. Pleasanton.
The county-sponsored location is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays offering boxes of produce, meat and cheese from the California Association of Food Banks and served more than 330 households when it opened last Tuesday.
The location is the second in the county and extends efforts to reach families suffering during the novel coronavirus health emergency, county Supervisor Scott Haggerty said in an announcement.
“Making sure that every person in Alameda County has access to food during this difficult time is a priority,” he said.
The Zhone Way Emergency Food Distribution site at 7105 Oakport St. in Oakland opened March 30.
Agencies partnering to operate the Pleasanton site include the Alameda County Department of Child Support Services, Alameda County Emergency Operations Center, the Alameda County Social Services Agency, Alameda County Community Food Bank, County Disaster Service Workers, and National Guard when needed.
“With the addition of a second food distribution site we are able to expand our efforts to ensure that residents throughout the County have convenient access to the food resources needed to sustain them through this pandemic,” said social services agency Director Lori A. Cox.
The operating schedule of the Pleasanton site may be adjusted according to demand, officials said.
