Fire rips through Belmont linen factory causing plumes of smoke to fill the sky

Fire has ripped through a linen factory in Belmont, causing huge plumes of smoke to fill the sky.

It started at the factory on Alexander Road at about 6.30am Sunday morning.

More than 20 firefighters are on site working to contain and control the fire.

Residents across Belmont have posted photos of the fire, showing smoke billowing from the roof of the building.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services are asking motorists to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
