ALPENA — First Federal of Northern Michigan Legacy Foundation presented a $2,000 grant to the County of Alpena’s Emergency Management Division (“ESD”) as one of their third quarter grant recipients. The $2,000 will be used toward the purchase of a sandbagging machine.

The ESD is responsible for overseeing all major incidents that happen in Alpena County. It works closely with private businesses and government agencies to provide resources to help prevent or assist with natural disasters in Alpena County. The purchase of a sandbagging machine will provide the ESD the ability to fill more sandbags in a timely manner and to move to various locations as needed in the event of a flood. In addition, it will free up volunteers so they can be reassigned for other needs that arise in an emergency situation.
