Farmers: Hike Milk Procurement Prices | Coimbatore News

Coimbatore: Citing an increase in fodder prices, a group of cattle farmers, affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate on Monday.
The protesters poured milk onto the ground to register their protest. Association’s president S Palanisamy urged the government to increase milk procurement price fixed by Aavin. “Aavin buys milk from us for 28 to 29 per litre. But, Aavin and private players are selling a litre for 50. The procurement price must be increased by 10 to tide over the crisis,” he said.
Aavin used to sell fodder at a subsidised price and provide subsidies for cattle farmers to encourage them, Palanisamy said. “The cooperative stopped giving fodder at subsidised rates six months ago.”
The protesters also urged the district administration to host monthly grievance meetings exclusively for cattle farmers.
