Deogarh:  Farmers intensified their protest over delayed paddy procurement and resorted to road blockade on National Highway-49 passing through Kalla village under Barakot block in Deogarh district.

As per reports, quintals of paddy kept in stock at the mandi is yet to be procured. Even though the farmers have received the token numbers, they have failed to receive permission to hit the target number.

Irked over the loss, scores of agitating farmers locked down the Samabaya Samiti’s office and blocked NH-49 connecting Mumbai and Kolkata by placing paddy sacks on the road. Several vehicles were seen stranded on both sides of the busy road.

The farmers have staged the road blockade since this morning and have also warned to intensify their agitation if their demand is not met at the earliest.
