Factory worker killed in freak accident in Bayan Lepas

GEORGE TOWN: A 33-year-old man died in a freak accident at his workplace he was crushed by a plastic injection moulding machine at a factory in Jalan Matang Pasir, Bayan Lepas early Saturday (Aug 8) morning.

Zaid Berahim died on the spot after sustaining severe injuries to his head and upper body in the 4am incident at the factory that manufactures medical and pharmaceutical equipment.

A Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the department deployed a team of firefighters to the factory after receiving a distress call on the incident.

“Firefighters managed to extricate the victim’s remains at about 6am,” he said in a statement.

He said the operation ended at 6.32am and the body was sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem.
