Factory worker dies after iron rod falls on him in Ctg

A worker of Bangladesh Steel Re-rolling Mills (BSRM) Ltd was killed after an iron rod fell on him while working in the BSRM factory in Bayezid Bostami area in Chattogram city today.

The deceased was identified as Ripon, 35, hailing from Dinajpur, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports quoting Sadekur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Panchalaish Police Station.

Ripon sustained injuries when a crane man mistakenly dropped an iron rod on him while he was working in the factory around 1pm, said Md Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Police Station.

He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where a duty doctor declared him dead, said inspector Sadekur Rahman.

Motiur Rahman, who brought Ripon to the hospital from the BSRM factory, said Ripon used to work in the factory’s delivery shed. “I rescued him from a pull of blood and brought him to the hospital. I saw an injured mark on his head.”

Tapan Sen, Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of BSRM, said Ripon was appointed by a third party at the BSRM factory in Bayezid Bostami area in the port city.

The BSRM official said the company has started investigating the cause behind the accident.

Abdullah Al Sakib Mobarrat, deputy inspector general of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE), Chattogram, said “Our inspector has already visited the spot. We have started investigating to find out the reason behind the accident.”
