Those who have complete confidence in themselves when it comes to putting together flat-packed furniture and servicing their own car might be interested in building their own supercar? How hard can it be?
Boy, do we have some great news for you. Factory Five Racing, a Massachusetts-based DIY kit car company, has decided to make a supercar in kit-form that you can put together in your own garage. Did we mention it comes with a 750 horsepower V12 engine? The price is still to be decided, but those who want a new project should start saving.
Factory Five Racing
Factory Five Racing is perhaps best known for its AC Cobra- and hot rod-style DIY kits. However, at this year’s SEMA, FFR showed off a new rolling chassis that will be the base for its build-it-yourself supercar. The images show the renders of said kit car, the Factory Five Racing F9R – and its specs sound insane.
Introducing The F9R
In the pictures, the F9R is apparently fitted with a track-only racing nose, but there will also be a road-legal one revealed soon. We think the aggressive styling looks incredible. The F9R’s body will be made entirely from carbon fiber and was designed by Phil Frank – the guy who designed the Saleen S7 almost 20 years ago. The chassis at SEMA was fitted with a 9.5-liter V12 producing 750 hp and 700lb ft of torque, and the car’s target weight is around 2,400 lbs.
When Can We Get One
It’s more than a little terrifying that someone will build a car with those specs in their garage. Apparently, Factory Five also thinks so and says that there will be small-block V8s from both Ford and GM available as well. The F9R won’t see production until late 2020 or early 2021, but FFR hopes to have a working prototype to show us next summer.
