Eufaula-based medical factory to bring new jobs to Wiregrass community | WDHN

EUFAULA, Ala. (WDHN) — Medical Industries of the Americas is a medical supply plant coming to Eufaula as a global publicly traded business, bringing as much as 400 new jobs to the city and paying up to double the minimum wage in Alabama. They manufacture PPE and surgical supplies.

“It’s a really big deal, it means jobs first and foremost for us. It has the potential to add 400 jobs for our local economy. So of course, that adds to sales tax revenue home consumption, all of those things, so it’s a big, big boom for our local economy and our regional economy to be very honest with you,” said, Executive Director of the Eufaula Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, Steve Hawkins.

The goal is to improve the economy by bringing new jobs to all sorts of skilled workers. Los Angeles resident and CEO of MI Americas, David Silvers was born in Sweden and came from a family of immigrant factory workers, he believes in giving people of all walks of life the opportunity to work.

“We’re looking to really provide a diverse workforce, and that means seniors too!” said, David Silvers, CEO of Medical Industries of the Americas.

Silvers says they chose Eufaula because of it’s proximity to ports to be able to ship products both nationally and internationally and the sense of ‘southern charm’ he feels in the Wiregrass region.

“The people are very very nice down there, I guess it’s what they call Southern Hospitality, and I like it you know, it’s a slower way of life but it’s a community, it’s a community and that is what is key, a community,” Silvers said.

The city is excited about the economic impact MI Americas could have and they look forward to this partnership.
