Enva acquires Ireland’s largest farm film plastic recycler ADN Materials Ltd

Enva has completed the acquisition of ADN Materials Limited, Ireland’s largest farm film plastic recycler. The cost of the acquisition has not been disclosed.

Farm plasticADN, which is based in Carrickmore, County Monaghan, processes contaminated farm film plastic which is largely made of polyethylene. The firm converts the plastics into light-density polyethylene (LDPE) pellets for reuse in the manufacturing of farm film plastic wrapping sheets and exterior plastic furniture.

This is the first facility in Enva’s portfolio that will process farm plastic waste. The facility has the capability to process a range of plastic materials and has a capacity of 10,000 tonnes per annum.

Speaking to Resource, Enva said: “Our initial plan is to work closely with the excellent team on the ground to improve the quality of the final recovered polymers. This will allow us to open up wider options for re-use, with particular emphasis on closing the loop back to agricultural applications.”

Enva is a UK-based provider of waste and resource management across a variety of sectors. Its headquarters are located in Glasgow, Scotland and it possesses 33 facilities across the UK. ADN joins Enva’s current polymer recycling operations and its seven sites across the Republic of Ireland.

Current facilities in Northern Ireland include Portlaoise, Shannon, Cork, Duleek, and three sites in Dublin. The new addition is its most northern facility.

Simon Dick, Enva’s Managing Director, said: “This highly complementary acquisition creates the opportunity for Enva to develop our plastics recycling business and advance the sustainable recovery of this material back into recycled products with a significantly lower carbon footprint.

“We look forward to continuing to support ADN’s waste producing and material re-use customers and helping realise environmental and decarbonisation benefits from closing the loop, particularly within the local agricultural sector.”

Liam Moloney, Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Farm Film Producers Group (IFFPG), added: “We are delighted to see Enva enter this space and we support the ongoing development of farm plastic recycling on the island of Ireland.

“To date, this material has been largely exported, which is riskier, plus the local agricultural sector has been missing out on the sustainability and decarbonisation opportunities from a closed loop solution.”
