CHANGES to Moray Council’s procurement policy have been welcomed.
The council’s corporate committee of Moray Council has agreed that enhanced data will be captured on local spend, helping support an increase public sector spend in the local economy.
The leader of the Conservative contingent on the council, Buckie councillor Tim Eagle said that this had been a long-term objective of the group.
He said: “I have raised the issue of local procurement contracts many times, trying to ensure that small to large businesses in Moray have the opportunity to bid for and access the large public sector spend throughout a variety of organisations.
“I have been contacted in the past by businesses who say too often money is channelled out of Moray or the process is simply too complicated.
“This might seem like a small step today but it’s another step in the process of trying to create a strong local economy which works for communities and businesses.
“I will continue to fight to ensure that the system is as accessible and supportive as possible so we can recover with strength from Covid-19 and use public money to support our own Moray economy.”
