Duo steals $1M in catalytic converters from Franklin County factory

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) – On March 22, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office indicted two individuals for burglary and theft with a combined value of over $1 million dollars.

William Falconberry, 49, of Mt. Vernon, was indicted on three counts of burglary in the third degree and three counts of theft of over $10,000 but less than $1 million.

His accomplice, 57-year-old Bennie Hume of Harrodsburg, was indicted on the same charges.

Authorities said Falconberry and Hume are accused of unlawfully entering a factory in Franklin County on multiple occasions from December 2021 through February 2022, and stealing components used to make catalytic converters.

These components were then reportedly sold to a recycling facility in Indiana.

The Franklin County factory whose parts were stolen report their approximate financial loss as $1.2 million.

Detectives said they recovered evidence at Falconberry’s residence that linked the duo to the stolen parts and ultimately led to an indictment.

The indictment follows multiple recent reports and arrests regarding catalytic converter thefts in central Kentucky.
