In a world first, DP World has partnered with Mastercard to facilitate payment for services at its ports. This will enable individual shippers and SMEs to make payments for freight related services remotely and easily.
Presently, the program has been launched as ‘Trade Card’ in the Dominican Republic. It will soon rolled out at other Latin American ports of DP World and subsequently across all of DP World’s global port operations.
In a statement to the press, Morten Johansen, executive director of DP World Caucedo, said: “This will help SMEs and cargo owners in general in the Dominican Republic to gain better access to the global economy and be an engine of economic growth.

“Our plan is to use the learnings from this pilot project to expand this partnership to other parts of the world.”
Apart from giving importers and exporters better access to credit the intitative will allow cargo owners to go fully digital – reducing the need for port visits and time-consuming paperwork.
The partnership is part of DP World’s aim to play a greater role in the world’s supply chain by providing more and more trade enabling services to small and mid-sized companies across the world.
