Digital freight forwarder sennder acquires Uber’s European freight business in an all-stock deal

Sennder, a digital freight forwarder, has acquired Uber’s European freight business in an all-stock transaction, thus making Uber a minority shareholder in the Berlin-based startup.

Notably, the agreement includes a shipper referral program in which sennder will refer shippers seeking freight brokerage or similar services in North America to Uber Freight, and vice versa.

Uber Freight was launched in Europe in March 2019. Its General Manager, Tom Christenson, will join sennder as COO and Daniel Warner, currently Head of Shipper Operations, will join as Senior Vice President Commercial.

Sennder merged with its French counterpart Everoad back in June, in a mission to consolidate the trucking market and, in this case, extending the group’s local presence to include Amsterdam. Earlier this year, it also established a joint venture with Poste Italiane, Italy’s largest logistics operator.

Founded in 2015, the German startup is backed by over €120 million in funding from the likes of Accel, Lakestar, HV Ventures, Project A, Next47, Scania Growth Capital and Perpetual.
