Deputy PM Chrystia Freeland Meets with Premier Ball

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland is in St. John’s today for a meeting with Premier Dwight Ball.

Freeland, who is also the Minister Responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs, made her first trip to the province as Deputy PM on Monday to join the tail-end of the Council of Atlantic Premiers meetings.

Today, she is up in the Premier’s Office to meet with Premier Dwight Ball and federal colleague Seamus O’Regan, the Minister of Natural Resources.

Ball says they will discuss internal trade, issues important to Newfoundland and Labrador, and items of national interest.

Freeland says the way Atlantic premiers have figured out how to work together as a region—setting aside partisan differences, to an extent—to think about how to facilitate cooperation in Atlantic Canada is fantastic for the entire country, stating that a lot can be learned.

She says there are also many issues to discuss, highlighting inter-provincial trade and NAFTA as examples.
