Death toll climbs to 16 in factory fire

DHAKA, Bangladesh

The death toll from Wednesday’s factory fire in Bangladesh has risen to 16, health sources said.

Two more people succumbed to their wounds on Sunday at a hospital in the capital Dhaka, said the sources cited by local Daily Star.

The fatalities could rise as 15 more people are in critical condition, the sources added.

Fire in the illegal plastic factory in the outskirts of Dhaka became fatal as there were no emergency exits to evacuate the workers.

Illegal structures and unsafe factories in and around Dhaka have become a major concern for authorities over the years.

In February this year, a fire in the old part of Dhaka killed at least 70 people and injured dozens.
