Material-handling specialist Daifuku has provided Japan Airlines with a self-bag-drop system that it developed collaboratively with the company.

Japan Airlines launched six self-bag-drop units at Haneda Airport Terminal 1 for domestic flights in February 2020, and plans to introduce 38 units in total to the terminal by summer 2020. The airline expects the new system to greatly reduce queueing time at check-in, as well as making the movement of baggage easier and safer. The installation is part of Japan Airlines’ Smart Airport program, whereby the airline uses technology “to improve customer convenience and create new value”.
