A New Bedford crumpet factory is one step closer to moving its manufacturing from the whaling city to Wareham’s industrial park after the Planning Board’s Monday night meeting.
Board members heard from G.A.F. Engineering representative Bill Madden, who described the proposed building as reshaping a structure that’s been used for manufacturing in the past to be fit for new usage.
The crumpet manufacturer, Sharrock’s Bakery, is looking to move from New Bedford to 3 Kendrick Road, Wareham, Madden said, and the business owners are excited about it.
“It doesn’t surprise me that they picked us,” chair Michael King said after Madden’s presentation, adding that the land is less than a minute from the highway. “I think that’s fabulous.”
Madden discussed several changes to the building and surrounding land, including new groundwater diversions, minor landscaping changes and making the parking lot area suitable for delivery trucks to move around in.
No public comment was heard on the project, and the board voted to move forward with reviewing Sharrock’s plans.
