COVID-19: Government, social bodies exercise caution, issue advisories

As a precautionary measure in the backdrop of Coronavirus (COVID-19) scare, major institutions and public places in Nagpur are going to remain closed for two weeks. Institutions have pasted hoardings on its gates regarding the reason of shutdown whereas many used social media platforms to make aware people about the step. JNARDDC Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Wadi has restricted meetings and gathering in the premises keeping the COVID-19 threat in mind. Instead of physical meetings the institute is using intercoms to conduct telephonic meetings to avoid gathering. The bio-metric attendance for all staff is restricted till April 15; No official tours or LTC till April 15; No outstation permission or leave; Employees returning from outstation trips are requested to take at least one week compulsory leave before reporting to duty. Shri Ganesh Mandir Tekdi In light of outbreak of COVID-19, the gates of Shri Ganesh Mandir Tekdi has closed till March 31. The Temple trust issued a press release regarding the closer.

 

Nagpur Diocese Church of North India Nagpur Diocese Church of North India has decided to restrict all household prayer meetings and worship service on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday in the Churches and even no meetings of pastorate committee be called till March 31. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nagpur has issued an order under section 144 prohibiting the assembly of four or more people in the wake of COVID-19 virus outbreak. Keeping this order in mind NDC has decided to restrict all public meetings and events in the community. Archbishop’s appeal Elias Gonsalves, the Archbishop of Nagpur and Apostolic Administrator of Amravati Diocese appealed community people to avoid to visit public places and mass gatherings for next two weeks.

 

Archbishop issued this advisory after keeping the outbreak of Coronovirus in the city. He recommended that people with symptoms of cough, cold and fever should immediately consult a doctor; Avoid hand shakes but to greet each other with folded hands; everyone must refrain from kissing or touching statues; Holy water will not be kept in the stoops during this period; Refrain from kissing the hands or the Ring of the Archbishop. NDCDA Nagpur District Chemists and Druggists Association (NDCDA) appealed all chemists of Nagpur district to sensitise citizens about Coronavirus and how they become safe with proper care. Rajendra Kawadkar, President, NDCDA issued a press release appealing all chemists to spread awareness about more and more use of hand wash and handkerchiefs instead of sanitisers and masks which are short in the market.

 

Ramtek Gadh Mandir closed till Mar 31 n Ramtek Correspondent Jogendra Katyare, Sub-Divisional Officer of Ramtek and Receiver of Shri Ram Mandir (Gadh Mandir), has ordered closure of Ramtek Gadh Mandir for visitors till March 31. The decision has been taken to curb the spread of Coronavirus. Katyare took the decision in accordance with the directives of Ravindra Thakre, District Magistrate. A notice to this effect was pasted at the main entrance of the temple on Wednesday.

 

However, the daily pooja and aarti of the deities in the temple will continue to be performed by the priests there. Many devotees who did not know about the decision, were sent back from the temple entrance on Wednesday. Katyare has also appealed to the devotees visiting Ambala Lake for ‘pind-daan’ and other rituals of the deceased relatives not to come in crowd. Only a couple or four people should come to Ambala for the rituals, he added. He has passed on the instructions in this regard to Swaroop Kharge, Chief Officer, Ramtek Municipal Council. Katyare has also appealed to the people to postpone the wedding ceremonies if possible, or to keep the number of attendees restricted.
