Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister of district, inaugurated one a new cotton procurement centre at Nirmal Ginning and Pressing Centre at village Chimnazari on Friday. On the opening day, 250 quintals of cotton was procured by Cotton Corporation of India (CCI). Dr Raut and Sunil Kedar, Animal Husbandry Minister, performed pooja of cotton weighing machine. Dr Raut and Kedar felicitated the first five farmers, who had come to sell cotton, with shawl and shreefal.
These included Manoj Pisar from Panjri, Dharmendra Garghate from Brahmani, Arun Mandaogade from Alagondi, Vishnu Matankar from Rama, and Chirkut Rokde from Jamtha. Krupal Tumane, Member of Parliament from Ramtek; Sameer Meghe, MLA; Rameshchandra Bang, former Minister; Ravindra Thakare, District Collector; Vrunda Nagpure, Zilla Parishad member; Ahmed Babu Sheikh, former Chairman of Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC); Pramod Manmode of Nirmal Ujwal Group, were present prominently on this occasion. In Nagpur district, so far, total 16,75,028 quintals of cotton has been procured from 81,648 farmers.
This includes 3,05,072.55 quintals of cotton procured by Maharashtra State Co-operative Cotton Growers Marketing Federation from 12,863 farmers. Besides, CCI has procured 83,643.93 quintals of cotton from 2,114 farmers. Besides, those holding marketing permit and licensed traders are procuring cotton from APMC are procuring cotton. Cotton procurement centres have been started at Mandwa and Bazargaon too. Speaking on the occasion, Kedar said that Cotton Federation and CCI were procuring cotton at 23 ginning and pressing units in the district. All the cotton with farmers will be procured, he added.
