Community Beer Works is one of the original modern craft breweries in Buffalo. We are looking to further expand our operation with the addition of an energetic, experienced, and passionate craft beer lover to become our new Lead Brewer. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

As the Lead Brewer, you’ll work with our Director of Brewing Operations and Head Brewer to
- Perform daily wort production on our 20-bbl automated SMT brewhouse
- Perform general process and maintenance procedures for operating grain mill, boiler, brewhouse, pumps, and other equipment.
- Perform full CIP procedures based on SOPs
- Keep meticulous records of all brewing and cellaring logs
- Work side by side with the Head Brewer on the production floor to maintain and grow the current production rate
- Monitor all fermentation metrics and finish beer vitals and report anything out of spec once identified and always prior to packaging
- Along with the Head Brewer, you’ll develop and execute recipes, submit the required information on all brands, and provide tasting notes/sensory feedback.
- Assist with the monitoring of yeast health, fermentation, cropping, and general yeast management
- Assist Operations Manager on production software (Ekos) data entry and upkeep.
- Monitor and perform preventative maintenance on a daily/weekly/monthly basis as required and ensure the production team follows all cleaning and maintenance schedules
- Ensure all brewing areas are clean and comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards at all times.
- Work internal/external events and festivals to represent the brewing team when needed

- Yeast Handling
- Beer Transfers and Filtration
- Dry Hopping
- Sanitary Practices
- CIPs/SIPs of Vessels
- Record-Keeping of Brewing Actions
- Ability to adhere to SOPs/Safety Requirements
- Wort production on a 20 bbl 3-vessel SMT Brewing system.
- Cellar management of all of our 40, 20, 7, and 3.5 bbl vessels.
- Loading & unloading of supplies and finished beer both manually and with material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack)
Qualifications
- Minimum of three or more years of professional brewing experience in a production brewery
- Preferred experience in a brewery with 2500 to 10000 bbls of annual production
- Experience with ale and lager production
- Brewer Certification or Fermentation Science education is preferred but not required
- Experience with EKOS production software is preferred, but not required
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
- Motivated by a passion for brewing and creating innovative quality beer
- Comprehensive understanding of brewing science, production, and cellar operations
