Combating food price hikes | The Star

THE steep increase in prices of vegetables, poultry, eggs and other basic food items that we are seeing now could well be due to price gouging, which means businesses are increasing the prices of goods, services, or commodities to unreasonable or unfair levels.

Price gouging occurs when there is a surge in demand for certain products during periods of emergencies such as natural disasters or, as is the case now, a pandemic.
