China’s Suntech opens 3.5-GW module factory in Changzhou

August 21 (Renewables Now) – Chinese photovoltaics (PV) maker Wuxi Suntech Power Co Ltd has opened a new 3.5-GW smart module manufacturing facility in Changzhou, Jiangsu province.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, just a few weeks after Suntech said it had completed a 1.5-GW expansion at its Wuxi module manufacturing facility.

The company spent a total of CNY 700 million (USD 101m/EUR 85.8m) on the Changzhou project and in the process added a number of new type smart module production workshops at the site. The factory now has brand-new automatic equipment thanks to which the module production efficiency there has been “greatly increased.”

Both the Waxi and Changzhou plants now have production lines that are compatible with multi-busbar cells of various formats.
