China PV supply chain hit by accidents

Recent accidents at polysilicon factories in China’s Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia are expected to prompt local governments to impose strict inspections on PV plants for public safety, which will temporarily disrupt production and result in short supply of polysilicon and solar wafers and push up prices for two months, according to industry sources.
An explosion recently occurred at GCL-Poly Energy’s polysilicon factory in Xinjiang, the sources said.
Prices for mono-Si wafers are expected to rise by US$0.02, the sources noted, adding the price hikes will impact Taiwan-based mono-Si solar cell makers who rely on Chinese suppliers for about 90% of their wafer needs.
